My family and I are so shocked to hear of Stu passing. I met Stu in the early 60's when he would come for his weekly drum lessons with my late father Gene Thaler, in New Jersey. My dad and Stu remained in close touch beyond those 10+ years, and was a special thrill for both of them when my dad would attend all the Shadowfax concerts when the band toured thru South Florida where he later resided.
As years went by I also would talk with Stu from time to time and would enjoy our conversations whether going over old times or future music endeavors. Our condolences to Stu's family.

take 2 - I was going through my CDs and came across my Shadowfax CDs.I wanted to show my boyfirend Mike Ricany. We started talking about Stu
and got to wondering how he was and what he was up to these days.I went online to look him up and how surprised and saddened to see that he was gone. I saw him last at Cranford High School Reunion #25. It was so great to see him . We had so much fun, laughing at his comments on watching me do the macarena... We kept in touch for a little while but then life gets in they way and before you know it the years have rolled on by. My heartfelt condolences go out to all those who knew and loved the man.. but oh how happy we all must be to have had him touch our lives.

Shadowfax was a groundbreaking group. The music that they produced took me to another place, a palce where university harmony existed.
The group ended first with the untimely passing of Chuck Greenberg 12 years ago, and now with Stu Nevitt, a master of percussion. I have many of the CDs they recorded and the the concert video. Thankfully, Shadowfax's music will live on. My prayers and condolences to Stu's family.

Stu, listening to the music you played, the diversity, the intensity, the nuance - I never met or made contact with you but I thank a friend of mine who did - she let me in on your new CD which I bought at CDBaby. I am sad that I couldn't tell you in person, you are one incredible stickman! Shadowfax will live on forever... Thanks for all the beats! My prayers to your family and friends.

Stu
Its been a month now since getting the news of your passing. I have to say its really affected me much more than I would have guessed since we hadn't seen each other in some time. Maybe some of the sadness comes from having just reconnected with you this past year and realizing that you were happier than you'd been in a long time - partly, no doubt, to Marion's influence - and now you're gone. Reading through many of the stories here there's really nothing more one can add except to say thanks. Best to you on your continued journey. -hl

I met Stu through one of my greatest friends Bruce Malament. The last time I saw Stu was at Mals funeral. I had the honor of recording some tracks with Stu for The Marion Kid project. What an amazing guy. The music just came to life when he played. And being in the same room with Mal and Stu together was incredible! I learned "feel" from those two. WOW! Im sad at the loss of Stu. Yet I know that Stu and Mal are jammin together and givin all of us that knew them great vibes! I love you Stu!

Here we are, coming back here each day to read all the wonderful thoughts and kind words that prove Stu was more of a nexus than most realized and more than he would ever have admitted to.
Thanks to all who've taken the time to write your thoughts here - those of us still mourning Stu's passing find comfort in these postings and solace in the memories...

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone.
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum...

I was very sad to learn of Stu's passing. He was my very dear friend for over 32 years, a sweetheart of a person and a phenomenal drummer. He was incrediblyI am blessed that we had recently connected and had the chance to reminisce about the good ole'days when he would borrow this beat-up old car and drive all the way from the house in south Chicago to Indiana to give me his latest expression of 'Admiration.' Sometimes it was a painting. Other times it was a poem. Stu made you feel like he alone was the President of your own personal fan club. I wonder if he knew, in reality we were all members of his?

I'll never forget the jam sessions that took place in that small studio under our house and the time Stu spent with me and the bros in between them. He introduced us to musical creation by presenting us with our very first musical instrument, a miniature drum kit. And although we probably used those drumsticks to whack away on each other more than on the drums, I will be forever grateful for Stu's influence on my deeper understanding of music and life.

I WILL MISS MY FRIEND VERY MUCH! I APPRECIATE SO GREATLY THE UPDATES ON HIS MEMORIAL, I KNOW THAT HIS PASSING IS SO HARD ON SO MANY OF US. HIS FRIENDSHIP WAS A GIFT I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE. HE WAS AMAZING TO PLAY MUSIC WITH OVER THE YEARS AND I FEEL LIKE A VERY LUCKY PERSON TO HAVE MADE SUCH GREAT MUSIC WITH SUCH A GREAT HUMANBEING! WE WERE ILL AT THE SAME TIME AND TOGETHER AS A COUPLE OF CHALLENGED KIDS, WE CREATED BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. HE WAS AN INSPIRATION THAT NO MATTER WHAT ROAD BUMPS LIE IN OUR PATH THAT WE CAN ALWAYS PULL SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL OUT OF THEM. HE WILL STILL LIVE ON IN MY HEART AS A VERY DEAR FRIEND AND I KNOW THAT HE HAS TAKEN THE GREAT JOURNEY BEFORE ME, BUT I WILL SEE HIM AGAIN SOON AND EVERYDAY IN ALL OF THE BEAUTY THAT THE MOTHER FATHER CREATOR SURROUND ME WITH. HE WILL SEND ME HIS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC IN THE WIND, THROUGH THE RUSTLING OF THE TREES, USE THE TIDES AS DRUMS AGAINST THE EARTH AND TOGETHER I WILL STILL MAKE GREAT MUSIC WITH MY FRIEND. I WILL THINK OF YOU ALWAYS STU AND WILL ALWAYS FEEL BLESSED THAT MY LIFE WAS TOUCHED BY SUCH A PERSON! MITAK AND MUCH LOVE TO ALL..... NIKO BLACK

I only knew Stu for a brief period when he was playing with Heartsfield and his side project Hot Spurs. A few months ago I sent him a joke email asking him to "cease and desist" for my photos he had on this site. Stu being the kind an considerate soul he was immediately credited me for the photos for which I was honestly just happy to see being put to use. I've since rummaged through all of those old pics and the one constant was the sheer look of joy on Stu's face while performing.
I'm honored to have known you Stu.

I didn't know Stu well, but whenever
we hung out (actually the last time I saw him was at Bruce Malament's funeral) I knew that he was a beautiful cat. Very sincere and soulful. I'll miss his gentle spirit and smiling understanding ways. God bless, brother Stu.

I have known Stu since I was four years old. My mom and I met him at camp Scheideck. We gooved around a lot, making funny voices and playing drums. We have spent every single Christmas together, and my birthdays to. I love Stu soooo much, and I miss him all the time. Stu spoiled me a lot. He even showed me a couple of tricks in baseball, and he got me my first guitar. Love you so much Stulie, I will miss you so much,

I met stu at one of their gigs in Philly, being a drummer watching him work was incredible for me. after the show I had the chance to talk to him and found him to be engaging and down to earth as well as the other guys in the band, his passing has sadden me, he will be missed.
